sattaricho shigmo

shigmo  takes place in sattari taluka in traditional way. Various contests are organising at taluka and state level. Large number of people from different walks of life come together for parade. It is similar to Holi festival, longest festival in Hindu calender approximately 14 days. 5th day is called "Rang Panchami" the day of celebrating colours with the use of "Gulal"

Holi helps to bring the society together and built some kind of bonding between them.
There is history and significance behind Holi festival, it says there once lived a devil and powerful king Hiranyakashyap who considered himself as a  God and wanted everybody should worship him. His son Prahlad began to worship lord Vishnu. To get ride of his son, Hiranyakashyap asked his sister, Holika to enter in blazing fire with Prahlad in her lap, and it says Prahlad was saved for his extreme devotion towards Vishnu while Holika paid a price for her sinester desire. The traditional of burning Holika or the "Holika dahan" comes mainly from this legend.
